Councillor Derek Milligan

I have been shocked  over the past 5 years to watch Midlothian Council's SNP Administration put themselves and their party interests ahead of the residents of midlothian.

We are now on the 5th Council Leader in just under 5 years as the SNP in fighting continues. It is clear they have no interest in doing what’s right for the public and continue to put themselves first at every occasion

I  am very proud of what Labour delivered when we ran Midlothian Council prior to 2012. Times are tough and difficult decisions have had to be made, but the decisions’ must be in the best interest of our communities.

In the Bonnyrigg area Labour delivered  the new Lasswade Centre and new Bonnyrigg and Burnbrae Primary Schools.

How many communities of our size can boast of having a Health Centre, one of the largest of its kind in the UK, and a new £18 million Community Hospital. Its a pity that the SNP Scottish Government and this SNP Council have ignored the looming GP crisis and now our Health Centre has closed its doors to new patients.  My priority is to work with our partners in NHS Lothian to ensured we have doctors to fill the rooms so that local residents have access to see a GP in the new facilities.

Under Labour, Midlothian Labour Council committed £108 million to a first phase of new council houses. 219 have been completed in Bonnyrigg or Poltonhall and in 2011 Labour committed a further £56 million for a second phase to start in 2012.  This should have meant the possibility of a further 120 new council houses for the Bonnyrigg area and it is an utter disgrace that only 18 council flats have been built in our town since the SNP coalition have been in power.

If I am re-elected I pledge to continue to work hard to help deliver high quality facilities and services for the people in the area.
